Dresses, garments, or attire-on the body, these are all things that are generally referred to as clothing. Every person is used to wearing clothes, so that he or she may be protected against cold or hot weather conditions. So, the coverings of the torso and limbs, as well as the coverings for the hands, feet and head, these all make up the definition of clothing.

In addition to this, there are some articles that people rather carry than wear. These are called accessories, among which we can include the purses, that are almost always carried by women, but also the glasses or jewelry. Tattoos, make-up and hairstyles are the decorations of the body are used to enhance the general message an individual would want to send to the rest of the people surrounding him.

Clothing was originally meant to protect people against extreme weather conditions, such as strong winds, intense heat, cold and rain. The weaves of these clothes also contribuited to the comfort of people, by not letting the air come around the skin and avoiding the exit of the air reheated by it. Clothes can also protect the skin from the ultraviolet radiation of the sun, which can, in extreme cases, burn it. The water of rain or snow is kept away from a person’s body by impermeable waves.

In addition to these protection reasons, clothes are also very useful by means of the social and cultural reasons of the people all over the world. Some of the cultures it is not a good thing to show to others parts of the human body anatomy, so the clothes are a method to hide from the rest of the world the particular areas of a person’s body. Clothing and exposure have always been shaped by religion and customs. Social classes, sexes, occupation, marital status and ethnic or religious affiliation can also be expressed by clothes. So, in the past centuries, people were distinguished by the clothes they wore. Nowadays, things are very much different.

People can wear clothes made of various types of fabrics, such as natural origin materials, like silk, wool, and leather, but may also select one for the man-made fibers extensively used in clothes manufacturing, like nylon, polyester or Lycra. The great progress in technology allows us to guess what the clothes of the future will look like. But this is all a matter of human imagination.
